Ensuring this unique slice of Australian heritage endures

Governance

Carrick Hill is governed by Carrick Hill Trust. The Trust Board determines policy and, together with senior staff, sets the strategic direction.

Governance

The Carrick Hill Trust oversees the management of the whole site, with the Trustees acting as guardians of the public interest

The Board decides on resource allocations, it represents Carrick Hill externally, and monitors the organisation’s performance against agreed objectives.

As a charity, Carrick Hill sets down guidelines for what is expected in Trust Board Member’s conduct. The functions of the Trust are:
(a) to administer, develop and maintain Carrick Hill for any one or more of the
following purposes:
(i) as a gallery for the display of works of art;
(ii) as a museum;
(iii) as a botanical garden.
(b) to promote and encourage the interest of the public in Carrick Hill, its collections and the services and amenities provided by the Trust; and
(c) to perform any other functions assigned to the Trust by this Act or the Minister.

The Trust ensures that Carrick Hill complies with its governing document, and any other relevant legislation or regulations. The Trust appoints the Director and monitors his/her performance.

In addition to the above statutory duties, each Trust member should use the specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board reach sound decisions. This may involve: scrutinising Board papers; leading, or participating on, sub-committees; leading discussions at Board meetings; focusing on key issues; providing guidance on new initiatives; or other issues in which the Board member has special expertise.
