Drawing inspiration from Carrick Hill’s historic interiors, exquisite gardens, and eclectic art collection, you will learn to capture the charm of these domestic surroundings. This short course will introduce participants to essential observational skills to create interior and still-life drawings. Skills taught will include techniques using soft pastels and exploring colour through observation or symbolic meaning. This course is designed to elevate your artistic abilities regardless of experience, from those participants with minimal drawing experience to those with prior knowledge.

Materials:

·        sketch pad

·        a range of pencils from HB to 8B

·        hard vinyl eraser

·        soft charcoal sticks

·        soft pastels in a range of colours such as a 15pcset, or your choice of colours including white and black

·        at least 3 pieces of Canson pastel paper or a Canson Mi-Teintes Touch Pad A3

Zoe Freney is an artist and academic based on Kaurna Country, Adelaide. She teaches Art History & Theory at Adelaide Central School of Art where she is Coordinator BVA and BVA (Honours). Zoe recently competed a PhD program at the Australian National University, where her project explored depictions of mothers and mothering from a matricentric feminist standpoint. Zoe‘s artwork explores issues of contemporary mothering and the creative potential of the domestic space. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and prizes locally and internationally.
