The Sewing Room
The sewing room was used as Lady Hayward's sitting room. The white bookshelves originally held her extensive collection of art books. Capturing the morning sun, it was a perfect room for needlework and reading.
The Haywards had Great Danes as pets. They were given free rein of the house, sleeping on the sofas and generally being much fussed over. Their portraits were even drawn by Sir Ivor Hele. These huge dogs galloping down the drive certainly made an impression on local children who had climbed the fence to take fruit from the orchard. More than half-a-century later, these 'trespassers' still remember how fast they ran to get away.
