The House
The English manor-style home, constructed of local Basket Range stone, was completed in 1939. It contains the unique private collection of two perceptive art connoisseurs, Ursula and Bill Hayward. The imposing Waterloo Staircase, oak wall panelling and carved architraves were brought out from the demolished Beaudesert Estate in Staffordshire. The 16th-18th century oak furniture is unquestionably the finest in Australia.
It was built around an extraordinary collection of Tudor staircases, oak panelling, windows and doors bought by Ursula and Edward Hayward on their honeymoon in England. They spent the rest of their lives filling the house with a highly personal art collection. This wealth of drawings, sculptures, antiques and paintings spans nearly 500 years of artistic achievement.
